Question: ?When/if to change transmission fluid 1999 Chevy Astro van RWD

Is it necessary to change the transmission fluid in 1999 Chevy Astro Van, (82K miles, no symptoms) and when? What indicators for this decision?

If it's an automatic transmission, it is good preventative maintenance to replace the fluid and filter every 35k miles. You can check the 'your service schedule' link on this site to see when exactly the manufacturer recommends it--but if the fluid is brown, has metallic specs or smells burnt, it needs to be done regardless of mileage.
