Question: white smoke from exhaust

recently, when starting my car after its been sitting for atleast 5 hrs or more, it shoots out a big cloud of white smoke. lasts for about 5 seconds then its gone. It doesnt do it when driving and my car drives perfectly fine. Has never over heated and temp gauge appears to be fine. I recently had the oil changed, ive been told either too much oil could cause this or the PCV valve might need to be changed. They want to charge about 100$ to hook it up and check it but id rather try small fixes first. Any suggestions??
