Question: Why battery fails to charge?

My 2004 Chevy Colorado 4cyl just up and died on me recently. A mechanic told me it was my alternator so I went and bought a new and replaced it. The new alternator was only putting out 12.16 volts so I had it replaced with yet another new one but made by a different manufacturer and it still was only putting out 12.16 volts. What else could be the problem?

You could have a blow fuse. The wire from the alternator to the battery could be bad.
