Question: why cant i get engine to idle steady anywhere between 1000 ans 2000 rpm?

Even after engine is warm, I cant increase throttle pressure within the above range without the engine revving up to 2500 then dropping back t around 1200 rpm. I should be able to set the throttle to sit at any rpm =, yes? The pedal has no friction/stick problem, injectors and plugs are fine, distributor innards are fine.

You should be able to. Sounds like the car is running lean. You'll have to take it to a someone who deals with vintage Porsches. There is probably a trick to the adjustment. I don't work on these type of cars, so I can't give you the quick fix.
