Question: Why does battery and oil light come on when I shift into neutral?

The car is a manual and about 50% of the time when I shift into neutral the battery and oil light will come on when rolling down a hill. Is this normal?

No, that's not normal. If it were one or the other, I would recommend getting the oil pressure or the charging system checked. But since both lights are on, it's more likely that the idle speed is so low that the engine stalled, or there is an electrical problem with the dash.

So, are you sure the engine has not stalled when coasting downhill? And if the idle speed is low, try cleaning the IAC (idle air control) valve and the throttle body.

By Zach Bowman For those who suffer a daily commute through heavy traffic, your vehicle's braking system can bring thousands of pounds of metal, plastic and empty Starbucks cups to a stop hundreds of times before you get to work. It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
