Question: Why does my vehicles alarm go off sometimes even when I open the door with the key?

The door handle of the driver's side door was replaced by the previous owner. I believe the problem I'm having with the alarm is caused by this. Instead of the driver's side handle put on, they put on a handle that was made for the passenger side. The reason I know this is because I have to turn the key the oposite way to unlock the door.

Is the alarm a factory system or aftermarket?

It could certainly be the mismatched door handle - fix that first.

If the problem continues, you may have a general failure of the alarm computer or another component. If this is the case, it's usually cheaper to have an aftermarket system installed and bypass/remove the factory alarm all together.

It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
