Question: why does "low oil pressure" light come on even after I've added some oil ?

Intermittently, "low oil pressure" light comes on. Stop, buy oil, check level, add some oil. Runs fine for a while, then same light comes on. If can't pull over to park and check car, all dash lights come on (engine, etc) and car steering stiffens up, hard to steer, brake, etc. What can the cause be ?

My first thought was your oil pressure sending unit may be bad. And it still may be. But since you mentioned all the lights coming on, I'd suspect a charging system or battery issue.

When battery voltage gets low, all sorts of strange things happen, including multiple dash lights illuminating, so you really need t start by having the charging system and battery tested before you go much further.
