Question: Why doesn't my motor turn over?

My motor was making a tapping sound, I was about to change the harmonic balancer. I was running it in the front hard. I killed it and tried to start it the fly wheel turns but not the motor. Any ideas????!

If the starter is turning over the flywheel but the pistons aren't moving, you have a major mechanical problem with the crankshaft. Pull the inspection plate for the flywheel and see if you can see any problems, the flywheel could be cracked or sheared off.
