Question: Why is my car accelerating weird?

My car is a ford focus and has 137,000 miles. Its just starting to do this thing where it will accelerate up to like 30 but then sort of chugs along unless I push down harder on the gas. It also accelerates past that and doesn't seem to sound like it is shifting correctly while accelerating. What might be wrong with it? AND how much is it usually to fix whatever this problem is?

I can't give you an estimate, because there are several different things that could cause that problem. First steps toward diagnosis:
Scan for diagnostic codes.
Replace fuel filter.
Test fuel pressure.
