Question: Why is my car randomly sluggish?

2002 Ford Focus ZX5 automatic 185,xxx
next oil change in 1,000 miles

Going around 30-45mpg at random times it doesn't want to accelerate for a couple seconds and then it will. Has only happened twice in a 2 week period.

My last car did the same going in reverse, I ended up needing breaks, is that what I need this time too?

For all hard starting or engine performance issues, you should always start with the basics. Make sure the tune up items are done and check the charging and starting systems. The engine must have the basics done in order for it to be able to run correctly. Many things can cause this type of problem, and the simplest sometimes get overlooked.
