Question: Why is my care overheating?

I have a 1999 pontiac grand am that is overheating but not to the red yet and the temp seems to go up and down. The heater also blows cool air when the engine is hot. I thought it my be a water flow issue so i replaced the heater control valve and heater hoses and made sure radiator was full. I am still having the same issue. sometimes when i accelorate the heater will start blowing hot like it needs the extra pressure to get water through the heater core. Do you have any ideas on this?

Check the thermostat and water pump. Make sure the system is fully bleed of air.
