Question: why is my fuel gauge going past full

when I start up my vehicle the fuel gauge goes past the full mark and stays there even when I know it's not full, and when I turn my car off the fuel gauge doesn't drop to empty.

You might need a new fuel level sending unit. It's in the gas tank. There is a chance that you have a wiring or gauge problem, but it's almost always the sending unit.
