Question: why is the acceleration slow?

Recently I've had a problem with my accelerator. When pushing on the gas from stop, the car is slow to accelerate and does not move past 2000 RPMs. Is this do to a plug in the fuel pump or elsewhere? No engine lights are on and it otherwise runs fine.

It could be due to a restriction in the fuel line, but it could be several other things as well such as a plugged exhaust, vacuum leak, plugged air filter, or fouled spark plugs. If it has been a while since you've done some maintenance you may want to just throw a air and fuel filter in as well as a set of spark plugs and see how it runs after. Otherwise I see mass air flow sensors go bad a LOT causing poor acceleration (and not necessarily setting check engine lights)

It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
