Question: Why when i put the car in reverse or 5th it clunks?

2000 Volkswagen jetta 2.0 5speed manual, when the car is at idle the clutch is engaged the car in not moving and when put in reverse or in 5th its kind of sticky and it clunks.

The reverse and 5th are on a differnt shaft in the trans. That is normal.
