Question: Why would my truck have trouble maintaining high speeds (80+ mph) and at steep levels.

When accelerating onto a freeway on-ramp, going from 0-75, not pushing too hard, my check engine light flashes and then has trouble maintaining speed. If i push it to 80 or higher, it will slowly decelerate to 65-70 for about 15min then is able to pick up speed.
also, when traveling up mountains, I last had to travel behind 18wheelers because my truck could not maintain speed for more than 15min. So i stuck with the slower traffic, again engine light flashes.

For all hard starting or engine performance issues, you should always start with the basics. Make sure the tune up items are done and check the charging and starting systems. The engine must have the basics done in order for it to be able to run correctly. Many things can cause this type of problem, and the simplest sometimes get overlooked.
