Question: Will 454 Chev long engine be compatable with my car?

My car is a 2000 Holden VX Commodore SS with 5.7L LS1 Gen3 V8.
Mechanics say my engine is screwed and needs to be replaced. They've stated that it can only be replaced by the exact same make & model motor as the one that needs replacing. I needed to know if it was possible to put a better engine in the car and what other changes would need to be made in order for it to be compatible e.g. ECU chip, brakes etc. Thank You.

The mechanic is correct.

If you want to install a large (or even just different) engine, major modifications to the wiring, computer and possibly the frame ill be required. And in most cases, will be very expensive and will need to be certified by your state's emission program.

I would not do this type of work in my shop, as it really isn't worth it.
