Question: Will a bad alternator affect your acceleration?

Earlier this week I noticed my lights would dim and my blower on my heat would reduce for a half second whenever the transmission shifted gears. Today on the drive home I lost all lights, gauges, radio, etc. while driving down the freeway. I pulled off the highway and was able to drive home but my car was very hesitant to accelerate especially out of 1st gear. My check engine and wrench light came on. Does this sound like an alternator problem?
