Question: Will a bad power steering pump keep a car from starting

Was making a loud rattling noise coming from the serpentine belt area . The car died and want start back up . The serpentine belt has been shredded up on both sides.

If a pulley is seized, then if the belt chewed up, a part of it may have gotten jammed, causing the engine to have a harder time turning over. But if the belt is gone or if the engine is turning over, it will not keep the engine from starting.

If the engine is not turning over at all, it's possible that the battery is dead because the alternator was not turning (because of the belt).
