Question: windshield wiper

someone broke my windshield wiper switch and it is just hanging there and does not work. the switch wont come off of the wireing, so do I need to take apart the stering colum and replace the whole untit

You need to take the steering wheel and both upper and lower column covers off to change the switch. I know of no way to just change the lever.
